The pine needles, mastication slash and oak litter are good to go at 4,000’. We burned about 300 acres around McCloud over the past 3 days and had great fire behavior with a little wind - this a less than a week after a heavy rain and even a little snow on the ground. The short-needle litter/white fir/cedar is still a little slow, still, but we had good consumption on sticks under 1" on the sunnier aspects, and it chewed thru it vigorously, especially with wind. We got north winds and fine fuel moistures got down to 7% yesterday, with the RH bottoming out around 25%.

I’m curious now that the bark beetle kill trees are toothpicks and have dumped all their bark, limbs and needles onto the forest floor how does that affect the fires.
