This fire has already claimed two lives. How much more operational risk do we want to throw at a wilderness fire that’s burning up into the rocks? Full suppression is madness. Reported costs to date - $29 million.

Blue plane icon is most recent Type I drop, fatality helo crash from last week is red icon.

All because it might kinda sorta threaten a portion of the valley.

Ya, well we sure wouldn’t want fire in the valley, it might clean up all the dead trees that are there because we’ve kept fire out of it for about 100 years. For crying out loud!

Well, they have done a lot of work in the valley over the last couple of years, but yes, there’s way more to do.

Camera cross puts the column about here:

Sentinel from 9/27/2026 showed that the fire which was active at that time was burning pretty intensely, but much of the area which had burned in the previous 2 weeks was low-moderate severity.

Most of the areas that have burned with higher severity in past 2 weeks (pink tones) are brush regrowing in the 2017 Empire burn scar (blue outline). Today’s blowup is also burning in the 2017 burn scar.
Many areas which had low severity in 2017 which still had trees on them appear to have had low-moderate severity in this fire.

Starting to skip towards a much more visible and recreationally utilized area of the park.

Only if there was a way to predict spots with elevated temps and humidity dropping to 15%. It’s sorcery I guess lol

Let the fire fighters do the firefighting. It’s a snaggy f*cking mess up top. Letting it burn needs to be taken up with the current administration. Not Team 3. Not team 4. Not the USWFS/Forest Service.
