They need to fix the titleā€¦ Lol. I tried to report it but couldnā€™t find anywhere to let them know.

Not sure itā€™s a celebratory milestone or anything but the first drop for Coulsonā€™s new 737 was today on this fire.

Reply to: DirtTower on repeatersā€¦
If your a service monitor/test set trained technician and tested the Daniels Repeatersā€¦ it takes many of those to make a safe wide area coverage communications system with those. When I requested them I would start with 6 (I think order#4290) repeaters with links and I would get a call from Sacramento office or Boise criticizing my order. Which would delay them shipping on a chartered flight. Trust the field COMLā€™s. As long the fire lines/box holds at this point, why place them out.

Excellent summary of the community meeting last night by CA Fire Scanner on Twitter

#WashburnFire (Yosemite NP) - From the community conference: the line around the Mariposa Grove & out to Hwy 41 is holding very well, still mopping up. 16 small spot fires were across Hwy 41 in the past few days & those are all contained & being mopped up.

#WashburnFire (Yosemite NP) - The Hwy 41 road system to Stud Horse Trail is looking very well. All of the sport fires to the north of the river are contained. There is less & less heat every day along the S-F-M-R on the western end of the fire.

#WashburnFire (Yosemite NP) - [Their internet turns to shit around here] still a lot of heat along the S-F-M-R on the eastern end of the fire. Inserted a crew via helicopter to a remote cabin in the Buck Creek area incase fire spreads that way, prepping around the structure.

#WashburnFire (Yosemite NP) - The fire continues to move east & spot ahead, advancing approx 1/2-3/4 of a mile a day consistently. Currently .2-.3 of a mile away from Iron Creek. They have 7 hot shot crews on that far eastern end of the fire (140 hot shots).

#WashburnFire (Yosemite NP) - The ridge east of Wawona Point > Raymond Mtn continues to hold well, 100 hot shots in there now & anticipate calling that piece contained in ~48 hours. FFā€™s continue to clean up around Mariposa Grove & the grove itself remains in a very good place.

#WashburnFire (Yosemite NP) - Also: likely will be able to repopulate Wawona (residents & property owners only) on Sunday morning, this is still under assessment & requires hazards to be mitigated first. That time frame is their best estimate. Likely more info on Sat morning.

Crappy reporting. The threat to the Mariposa Grove is over. If she is talking about other places nearby sequoia could burn, she should tell us where they are or what scenario puts them at riskā€¦

Maybe the cams are out of orientation but I cannot see any fire activity. Iā€™m assuming iron creek is holding ? Anyone heard anything?

Miami peak 1 is looking at it but yes so far everything is going well up there, crews are going direct.

I did the same, cameras looked pretty subdued, doing the time-lapse mode, you could see some smaller plumes. OSCC update this afternoon only indicated an increase of 20 acres since last update. Looked like a relatively quiet day on the fire.

So letā€™s talk about the fire effects on this. Everything Iā€™ve seen has been good ground fire, not a lot of torching and no stand replacing runs, that Iā€™ve seen anyways. Might be able to call this a good fire?

ā€œEverything weā€™ve seenā€ is the keywords here IMHO. Iā€™m wondering about what weā€™re not seeing. Areas from the Beginning of the fire for one. Also ā€œgoodā€ fire seems like a very subjective term that many people might define differently. Itā€™s definitely not a prescribed fire which would have had a lot more control factors in place. I really appreciate how previous control burns in the Grove worked in keeping the fire from ravaging that area this time. Thereā€™s a lot to learn I think. I really donā€™t usually express my opinions on fires because Iā€™m no expert. Iā€™ve just been monitoring and reporting on them for almost 10 years now and I did live and work in Yosemite years ago and Iā€™ve lived around it for almost 30. My first wildfires I ever experienced were in the early 90s in Yosemite. Those were brutal.

You hit the nail on the head! Fire effects from this fire may very well be good or even very good for the environment. The issue is this is not the way to go about reintroducing fire in the landscape. Only through massive continuous air attack available because this was the only fire in the region and hard dangerous work by the boots on the ground is this nearly corralled. The pure luck involved is that a severe fire weather event did not sit over the area for the past 10 days. Hopefully all these issues will be looked at along with policies to keep these frome growing in the first place, when and where that is appropriate. There is lots of grey area between definitely good and definitely bad. Looking back to make initial decisions based on outcome is simply an exercise in confirmation bias from either side of the discussion.
