Saw that Cal fire slo is doing a “FF1 handcrew training program” so assuming most of the new hires will be only able to work on the crew if they don’t have the basic academy.
Several units had to do just that, hire FF’s for their hand crews who didn’t have the CALFIRE Basic FF cert. These FF’s are going to receive a minimum 80hrs of FF hand crew training and will only be allowed to work on the hand crews until they have taken and passed the CALFIRE Basic FF class.

If you had rehire rights then you should have been back by now. Also you have to have a minimum of 3 months separation before returning.
