Saw that former El Cariso Sup and long time fire strategist Doug Campbell passed away yesterday.
CPS is so simple and critical for a basic understanding of fire behavior. Thank you Doug for you innovation.
Got to spend time with him driving him around on the Aguanga fire in 84, my first season. Was like having a portable classroom for 10 days. Learned so much that a 40 hr would not even be in the same breath as training. He truly believed in the CPS and showed it worked every day. A true pioneer in Wildland Firefighting.
Doug and I were long term friends. He was one who performed his job with enthusiasm. He did a lot to advance ideas about safe aggressive wild land firefighting tactics. He will be missed. The LPF had a good man when he was the FMO on the Chuchupate District.
May his memory be a blessing to all that knew him . God Speed Doug.
Doug’s theories on alignment of forces were genius! His Campbell Prediction System is in use world wide. Doug, thanks for being a teacher and sharing your knowledge. Go with God and Rest in Peace.
Sorry to hear about Doug. He was a real leader in the Wildland fire world. RIP
