Our app directly connects to the NIFC (National Interagency Fire Center) API to pull near real-time data from RAWS stations—currently covering California in the first version (click in map to see all stations) We’re deciding which state to add next.
Pocket RAWS also includes:
• Fire Weather Discussions and Fuels Discussions (currently North and South Ops).
• Push notifications for station thresholds (available with a subscription).
You can download it from the Apple App Store—just search for Pocket RAWS. It’s iOS only.

I’ve been playing around with your app and it’s really awesome! I’d think any if the western states with RAWS would be greatly appreciated and used in the field.
Yeah that’s going to be a tough call. Hopefully some other folks from those states will chime in. From a CA guy though it’s definitely a tool I will utilize.

Big news from T-Mobile today. The much anticipated T-Satellite service will be commercially available on July 23 and will include SMS texting, MMS, picture messaging and short audio clips.
In addition, the company shared that on Oct. 1, T-Satellite will launch a data service to allow application experiences on the satellite network. T-Satellite will be included at no extra cost with T-Mobile’s Experience Beyond plan. For everyone else — including AT&T and Verizon customers — the service will be available for just $10 per month.
At launch the service includes 911 texting via satellite. Later this year, T-Satellite will provide 911 texting service to any mobile customer with a compatible device, regardless of carrier or whether or not they are subscribed to the service. Because everyone deserves peace of mind when they’re off the grid.
I am very excited about another network path to leverage for TAK. Is this a MESH/MANET killer? I do not see it that way. It is just another layer of resiliency in a PACE plan for mission critical operations.

We’ve made a great update to our Pocket RAWS app. The Fire Intelligence view now includes PSA information for both North and South Ops in California—adjective ratings, BI and ERC percentiles, and 7-day Significant Fire Potential for each PSA.
While RAWS data is available via public APIs in other states, the fire intelligence products aren’t. California seems to be the only region with solid public APIs for accessing that intel without having to enter it manually.
Hey all I am going to post this here and in the TAK thread we have had going on but wanted to share I am teaching a FREE two day workshop on TAK in September in Murrieta CA.
The intended audience is for folks that are trying to see if TAK is a fit for their organization. The two day event will cover it all, there will be hands on stuff as well as UAS demonstrations.
