I have a former coworker whose son is working on his doctorate at UCSB. He is a computer and engineering genius and is working on some sort of real time spread map for vegetation fires. I know many of you in the GIS and situation realm have access to the best technology. My question is this, what are the best open source maps and fire spread gauges out there? What are the best sources that are government access only? Most importantly, would any of you who are working on this sort of technology be willing to speak to him about what he is doing? If so message me your contact information. I’m curious to see the end result of what he’s working on, but coding is way over my thick head.
