HI-Mana???

I think this is a good scanner link

Some of the terminology is not quite ICS as we are used to

Good point. They did a good presentation.

I wonder if it would be possible to send one of the 737 air tankers or a MAFFS unit out there to assist from the air. They’d be limited to water drops only but I’d imagine it be fairly quick turnarounds given the topography.

Does anyone have a current size and percentage contained?

They’re supposed to make a helicopter recon on it this morning according to the briefing (too much smoke to do it yesterday). They secured the slopover (?) west of 190. Sounds like all the open line is now east of 190. Winds have lessened so it doesn’t sound like its running as bad. Yesterdays spot weather for today show about 25% reduction in winds and luckily a minimum humidity of 69%!

They also stated this is the largest fire ever on the Big Island, I’m guessing all of Hawaii also.

Interesting data: They stated there are 50 engines on this fire. Pop of the island is under 200,000. That is a lot of engines for this and still keeping stations/response areas adequately staffed. Never knew they had that deep of resources. G-map only shows 16 stations (doesn’t include military). I wonder if there is any mechanism to ship equipment over from neighboring islands.

mark_wheeler — I think the issue with air tankers would be the wind. Not too effective when the wind is blowing 40 mph. What a sight it would be though!

FMAG approved for the Mana Fire

Mods - Can you change the name of the thread to “HI-Mana”, looks like that is what everything is referenced to.

Sounds like they’ve got a handle on most of the fire, — “shaky containment” :grinning:

All evac have been lifted, most major roads have been opened up (the old saddle road, Hy 190).

I’ll post final acreage if/when they release it.
