So, I have very general knowledge of MODIS & VIIRSI mapping/images. I can look at these images posted by others and make out what is going on (again, generally). Can anyone point me in the direction of gaining more info on these? Or links on where to view them? I’d love to learn more about the subject. Thanks!

I think this particular portion of that FAQ is very important for anyone looking at MODIS data, because it is often misinterpreted.

My favorite way to use it is in Google Earth. You can download overlays here that update themselves regularly.

I use on of the KMLs from that page. Specifically the “bundle” KML. It has all sorts of satellite goodness:
