Just left Redding and on our way out if town I freaked my wife out… Told her to look at it and that it was erupting! She Damn near crashed my truck

Well…lava as it get heated exerts pressure on the earths crust and well…

With an unstable atmosphere and the mechanical lift from the Mountain and at times the thermal lift from the sun striking the southwest side combine it causes a rapid lifting of the local air as it hits the freezing level clouds form. Mt. Shasta being so height dominates the area and causes all types of cool formations this effect is the most dramatic.
