New Fires

All,

I understand that there is a great desire for information at times like these.

I want to remind everyone, or inform those who do not know, that these guys are in what is essentially a rapidly expanding combat situation.

No one is making maps
No one is building an IAP
No one on the ground cares who’s area they are in right now

Please be patient and take the info as it comes. Those of us that have done this can assure you, the focus right now is on saving lives and grabbing small chances they can to hold portions of the fire.

Be safe if you’re engaged, be patient if you’re not. If you are in an affected or potentially affected area, follow the evac warnings and orders of your local agencies.

End of report.

A couple more items to put on the wait and be patient list.

1.) Speculation about whether new fires are arson. Nobody knows that at this point. Wild speculation about any aspect of these fires does not belong here in this forum. This forum deals with facts and valid information. Let the people who are responsible for determining cause do their jobs.

2.) Personnel availability during a severe drawdown. This is not an uncommon occurrence. Let the managers and teams make the decisions they need to make with respect to resources and resource allocation.

3.) We are in a situation of protecting the lives and safety of the civilians first, firefighter and first responder life and safety, protection of property becomes a distant third and perimeter control is minimal.

All-

As we’ve all witnessed the past 24 hours, multiple fires, including two significant ones started resulting in severe resource drawdown and structure lost. As Mods, we appreciate the great feedback and posting to keep many appraised of every evolving situation that occurs. We kindly ask that you limit any Monday morning quarterback opinions to yourselves and please keep it civil. This will only assist us, including everyone else to stay up to date and professional. The next several days will be very busy, so please, stay safe!

Thank you,

MOD-FJ

Oregon state fire marshal has sent out resources to head to the fires in so cal also that includes contract engines and crews that are available for assignment.

Arizona did the same, we had a few task forces prior to the wind event propositioned, but orders went out this morning for more. Fed staffing is bare minimum, and we’re still having fires of our own, so quite a bit of LG took the orders.

Yeah and you know being that it’s January and the amount of large fires going on between AZ and so cal with staffing already short, a lot of LG and contract equipment will be filling the void.
