On Wednesday, June 8, 2022, the Coronado National Forest responded to a new start at approximately 7:15 PM in the Peloncillo Mountains, Douglas Ranger District. Due to increased complexity, the Forest has requested the assistance of the Type 3 Incident Command Team, under Incident Commander Chad Rice. The team will assume command at 6:00 AM on Friday, June 9, 2022, transitioning over the current 136 personnel assigned to the 1,092 acre Deer Creek Fire. Work will continue on the construction of a fireline to halt forward progress with full suppression efforts in place. Aviation resources will continue suppression flights to assist ground support while conditions allow. The fire is currently not threatening any structures or other resource values. Fire investigators are on the scene.
