OES Engines to Oregon

They can keep the apparatus out longer. IE San Francisco did a crew swap already. Per their 15 day Dept policy. They can keep the rigs rolling indefinitely

Actually both of you are incorrect. In the transfer of agreement form your department signs says “The Cal OES engine may be assigned to out of area assignments for up to 14 days, plus travel time. When local government personnel, staffing Cal OES apparatus, are committed to extended assignments there may be a need to replace or rotate personnel”. But hay you both were close.

The 14 days was true several years ago. The new contract reads 21 days plus travel time. San Francisco has a whole different contract they own their equipment not OES, but will respond as an OES resource, not a typical LG resource. Any agency can change personnel out at almost anytime. Only the incident won’t pay for it and the double OT.

SF is not running their own apparatus anymore. They have 6, 5 Type 6’s , 1 Type 1 true OES owned engines. The 15 day policy is just an in-house thing, with indefinite time being out.

I’m sure every Dept has their own deal.

Do they still own those 5 T2’s they purchased from the CA State Auction?

Orange County’s new T6 OES rigs will be 3-0 staffed, 14 days max on assignment, plus 2 days of travel. Crews are usually swapped out via chartered bus if the s/t is still needed past 14 days. Its my understanding that OES wants the rigs sent back to their home units for preventative maintenance at the 30 day mark of deployment. (The T6 rigs in ORC are delivered, but not yet in service)

You are correct, usually OES wants to get the rigs serviced at 28 days assigned (two 14 day stints, crew swap after the first 14, exclusive of travel days). But that usually goes out the window, when fire season is hitting hard. Now OES has hired more mechanics, you may see the rigs getting serviced on scene of large incidents to keep them committed. There is one OES Mechanic that went out with these rigs to Oregon.

OES Strike Team 1841A composed of Engine’s from the Los Angeles County area were assigned and deployed to the Bootleg fire before being re-deployed to the Dixie Fire.

Only one of those rigs is getting that good quality MPG… The others removed?/tore off the air dam under the chin… There goes the OES fuel budget… Glad to see them getting used.
