The 10 years will probably lapse before he hits the mark, but it’ll still seriously impact the next decade of his life. Thoughts on the punishment fitting the crime?

I think this kind of judgement is excessive for a 15 year old kid. The punishment should be severe but allow him to succeed as an adult. IMHO these kind of judgements make it less likely that anyone would come forward and ever admit that they started a fire - makes doing the right thing really hard.
