New Wildfire Reported in the Columbia River Gorge west of The Dalles near Mosier, OR (Wasco County)

The Mosier Creek Fire started this afternoon around 4:30 PM and is seeing a full response of two Type 1 helicopters, large air tankers, SEAT’s and also the Super Scooper airplanes. The fire as of 6:30 PM was estimated at 50 acres in size with no containment. Gusty winds are causing this fire to grow. The purple square is the rough location of the new fire.

From the Wasco County Sherrif’s Office regarding evacuation notices:

Level 3, GO (Evacuate): Residents of Osburne Cutoff, Vensel, Catron, Dry Creek, Carroll, Morgenson, and from Chenoweth Airport to Vensel/Ketchum Rd.

Level 2, GET READY: Intersection of Dry Creek across Seven Mile to Foley Lakes intersection, back up to Chenoweth Rd West to Chenoweth Airport.

Level 1: All of Browns Creek Rd from Chenoweth Rd. to Wells Rd.

Conflagration act invoked with 300 homes threatened

From Wasco County Sheriff- The Mosier Creek Fire has burned approximately 500 acres at this time. Local and regional fire departments have responded to assist in this effort. Crews will be working the fire overnight and patrolling for any unexpected boundary changes.

Fire size as of the early this morning is 791 acres.

UPDATE: 3:50 am winds are directly out of the west now, and there may be increased fire visibility due to fire operations. 49 deg F, with 63 Relative Humidity. winds holding around 12 mph. Burn out operations in process

The Mosier Creek Fire started yesterday afternoon around 4:30 PM and has seen a full response of two Type 1 helicopters, large air tankers, SEAT’s and also the Super Scooper airplanes. The fire as of this morning is 791 acres with 5% containment lister. Gusty winds caused this fire to grow rapidly. The purple square is the rough origin of the new fire and the maps below provide the most recent fire perimeter boundary. Active fire behavior with running, group torching and short-range spotting. Energy infrastructure and numerous residences threatened. Evacuations, area and road closures in effect. Around 900 residences are currently threatened by this fire. This is a human caused fire.
Oregon Governor Kate Brown invoked the Emergency Conflagration Act Wednesday night. The emergency measure authorizes the Oregon Office of State Fire Marshal to mobilize resources to help local crews battling the fire.

The Office of State Marshal’s Blue Incident Management Team has been mobilized.

Eight structural task forces from Clackamas, Washington, Marion, Yamhill, Deschutes, Columbia, Polk/Lincoln, and Multnomah counties, and personnel from the OSFM, are arriving this morning and this afternoon at staggered intervals using COVID-19 mitigation measures at the staging area in The Dalles. Crews will be working to protect threatened structures.
