R5 staffing.....

Just throwing this out there to see where all the fed type 3’s are standing as far as staffing. This is where my district currently stands:
Out of seven engines:
(5) GS7 engineer vacancies
(3) GS6 afeo vacancies
(13) GS5 engine lead vacancies

On top of that, several of those gs 7/8s are actively looking at other options, and/or have active applications to other agencies, some having received tentative job offers. Our neighbor district is in the same boat.
Just curious.

With real inflation being +5%,
Interest rates being 6.5% plus
And the national debt exceeding $32 trillion
The interest payment alone is 30% of the Federal Budget
Not to mention the recent shit show over the border bill.

Unfortunately, this will continue to get worse, before it gets better.

Totally. We are headed to a big reset unfortunately. Come the day when social security payments are simply ended due to lack of funding, and gov pensions fail to pay out for the same reason. The only solution is to go to the fed and print more $ which only would exasperate the problem, and is part of the reason we are in this situation

In Calif, it’s a better career move to obtain a paramedic license and Calif FF-I, then test for a municipal dept/district. Make decent money year-round, plus station OT and periodic two to three weeks of out-of-county portal-to-portal assignments during fire season.
