RADIO COMMUNICATIONS

I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A CATEGORY CALLED COMMUNICATIONS. There are a lot of changes this year on frequency changes not only from NIFC but from your local agencies. It would be nice to talk about them here.

So, as far as NIFC COMMAND CHANNELS, COMMAND Channels 1-6 have been reversed, thus changed for this years frequency loads.
CALFIRE, here in California, has added more Tactical channels and added Receive (CTCSS) Tones to all of the California owned frequencies; VFIRE’s, VTAC’s, CALCORD, Air - Grounds and Air Tacticals.
Please check with your local frequency coordinator, radio technicians to have these changes made to your radios

Just an FYI. This is from this years MACS 441-1.

  1. Cal-OES and the FIRESCOPE Communications Specialist Group are no longer authorized to publish Federal frequencies not identified as National Interoperability channels. These radio frequency assignments are Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) release exempt and are to be protected as Sensitive but Unclassified (SBU) data (Controlled Unclassified Information//Basic) . To obtain frequency information for this channel, please contact your OES Region Assistant Chief. For after-hours needs contact the CAL OES State Warning Center (916-845-8911).

Don’t want to see anyone get in trouble.

I’m looking for affordable handheld radios to use on prescribed burns. They need to be compatible with BK and other fire radios, but they don’t need to meet NIFC specs. We’ve been using Baofengs, but they aren’t reliable enough over the longer term. Any suggestions on a good model in the $250-400 range, or a commonly available used model? We have our own dedicated freqs…

There are a lot of good new or used Kenwood or Motorola business/construction type handhelds out there. The ones that have little or no display and are programmed by a laptop pretty quickly and easily. They are the same basic specs as fire radios without the fancy $$$$ features that mean nothing when everything is pre-planned. Some have 4 or 16 channels, should be plenty. If I am allowed to name names of a shop I know I will.

SW Comm File to large for this System.
PDF is over 7 mb. Contact my email for the file.

Used Kenwood 2180 with the cal fire firmware allows for field programming. Such a great little radio. Its end of life but probably by them used for cents on the dollar.
