Does anyone happen to know if the King Air that has been at Ramona this past week is related to this base receiving one of the new Cal Fire C130’s later this year ?
I believe it is a training Air Attack platform.
A504 is a training platform for new ATGS students which rotates bases throughout the state during the “fire season.”
It moves around frequently as ATGS training is needed. It’s tentatively headed to Fresno tomorrow. AA503 is the other training platform ship floating around the state as well.
A503 is no longer a training platform as it’s been converted to Intel.
Intel like the OES intel ships?
Correct, Intel 503 has similar technological capabilities.
By 2024 hoping CAL-FIRE intel will have parity with the Aevex/OES Intel platforms (its close now). Its a new program so its going to take some time. Very happy to see this happening within cal-fire. I hope they share the same philosophy with sharing perimeter data through an open feed.
Is this going to be a Cal Fire Firehawk or a contract bird?
County owned, CF operated
Spare coverage by CF
Long saga to get in service
Actually, the ship at Ramona (tomorrow) will be State owned. The County purchased ship from SDGE will be in reserve for the CALFIRE fleet.
Is Ramona fully up and operational now? It looked like T122 was lifting off.
Doesn’t look like it. T71 is loading at Hemet Ryan after it dropped on a fire in Ramona.
So they are park there loaded and respond IA but are still going to Hemet for reload? And the C-130 is going to San Bernardino?
Will any of the other LATs reload at Romona once it’s finished?
Looks like Flightradar24 just confirmed the IA and reload locations.
Correct. The plant is almost operational and the new build will accommodate all tankers with the exception of the VLAT. Great progress and such a huge strength of numbers landing in Southern California.

More Air Force added to the Southern Fleet that’s pretty sweet. Are they still flying two S2’s out of there or just one now with the new addition?
Both S-2T are still assigned there. That being T-70 & T-71. Don’t know if T-122 the C-130 will dispatched on most of the IA incidents?
Back in the late 80’s through 2008 we had a C-54 type 2 AT assigned there on a FS contract. That really made a difference on IA fires, making a 1-2-3 punch on many days. Was the best of my CalFire ATGS times there.
