Sandalwood Fire Cause Discussion

A bunch of internet fire experts/lawyers/trash truck operators in the comments, I feel bad for the driver of that truck.

Followed protocol. And based on all the internet hero’s I’m clearly no expert but I feel like a fully involved trash truck would have spread to the brush anyway…

Good stop under those conditions, the fire was immediately impacting structures.

If you search for it, there is a video of people following that trash truck for miles and pleading with the driver not to dump his trash fire load where he did. He was warned, and did not heed. I don’t know if this trash company has protocols in place for this type of problem, but I also know that common sense is not so common. I expect many lawsuits not only for the trash company but for the cities’ disregard for sufficient fire response and resources. The list of mistakes and incompetence that caused this situation will be a sight to see when the courtroom is shown all facts.

Hasn’t seen all that. I certainly agree with the second part of your post…

I can only speak from my experiences, but the dozen or so trash truck fires that i have been on in Riv Co, waste managment was the company and they always kept the fire contained in the hopper until we arrived and then slowly emptied out the truck. Usually a supervisor was enroute and once the fire was out, they brought in a roll away and a bob cat to clean up the mess.

Do you also go after all the home owners of the houses that were on that trash trucks route, for who knows they could of thrown away stuff that is not suppose to go in there l, such as paint thinner or something That started the fire inside the trash truck to begin with. Just for conversation since everyone is so sue happy these days and don’t realize that stuff happens that are out of control.

Yup guess ca should run all the trash companies, pge, and everything else that could possibly have an accident.

Nateside,

there are no mandates for fire protection in government. A local government decides their own fate. There is nothing to sue anyone over.

Do I think it was a mistake for calimesa to pull out of RVC Fire? Yes.

In the end the voters decides. You can have nothing, volunteer, paid etc.

Dear sofr_bear,

You’re saying that same trash company has had so many fires you’ve personally been to a dozen of them ? Multiplied by the rest of the area they serve and other fire department shifts throughout the area, that’s an astronomical amount of their trucks they’ve burned. You should gather that info from all your fire reports and log books. I hope you plan to share that info with the proper authorities, as it’s now a homicide investigation.

Please reread sofr bears post.

I’ve been to three in the last two years, not to mention the two major incidents at two separate facilities I’ve been too in the last year. Trash catches fire fairly often. Depending on how long sofr bear has been in the business a dozen is totally reasonable.

I have been to at least 4 garbage truck fires in that area in the last 3 years. Only one has still had the load onboard when we arrived. The outcome of this event was unfortunate, if any one circumstance was different the outcome would have also been different. I would love to see the final report that shows what chemicles and how many lithium batteries were in that truck,

Let me clarify my post,

The company that I have delt with is Waste Management, you know, the white cab with the dark green hopper that has the yellow/green/white lettering on the side that says Waste Management . I feel that they are a pretty legit company when it comes to their own trash trucks on fire. Very professional, willing to help with the mop up, and usually very apologetic. From the video that I have seen, that was NOT a Waste Management truck. Again, I can only speak from my experiences…I have 32 years on the job working for a few different agencies up and down the State (thanks for reminding my that I am old).

Trash truck fires are fairly common, they just don’t make the news on a regular bases.

Carry on.

CR&R is the Company, they have County area contract and some Cities, they are based out of Perris but that truck comes out of a company yard in Cherry Valley.

You should have read his/her post a little better before calling him/her out by name and demanding he/she gets involved in an investigation.

Way to early to name/names. Please consider all folks involved and the impact upon them. Please take a pause and maybe put yourself in that situation.
