The next Cascadia earthquake/tsunami event.

During these dog days of summer, as we drove down to Edwards Crossing on the South Fork of the Yuba, my mom would always say, ‘Feels like earthquake weather.’ Then, as we walked across the old wood plank bridge, she’d say it again: ‘Feels like earthquake weather.’

Well, the Cascade volcanoes average an eruption once a human lifetime, or approx. twice a century.
However, earthquake swarms occur pretty regularly at volcanoes, and the usual outcome is nothing. The USGS classifies this as “normal background activity”.

Good copy on “normal background activity” and yet it is not lost on me that just this week news was shared that scientist have found another completely new organelle inside human cells. It may seem unrelated to this topic however my point is that it continues a human trend of needing to re-fine, revise & re-define things that we thought were black/white. So, thats just 1 micro-scale example.

Towards the other end (many many orders of magnitude larger) on the galactic and cosmic scales the same is also true. There is a constant stream of “oh sh!t” moments/learning taking place. My though now (as an older fella) as our galaxy corkscrews its way to some destination - is that Forcing from factors we do not see / have not seen in the short time homeosapiens have been around is a much bigger player in the happenings here on earth & our galaxy.

And then there is the pesky matter of our sun and its relative quite state. It is now better understood that the sun is prone to outbursts the current batch of humans has not witnessed and those outburst’s have had MAJOR impact on the planet. So, i now have skepticism where once i had faith - regarding all things we say are normal or matters of fact based on human record keeping or the recent geological record data, etc. Way too much blah blah blah that not many on this site want to hear.. Sorry! Cary on…

Better observation tools leads to a better understanding. The more and more accurately you observe, the more you can learn.

In fire, we are rapidly moving past the GACC’s regions and developing risk/fire spread models based on much more local conditions then 10 years ago. It will never be perfect, but in 50 years, our understanding of fire has immensely improved.

Recent events - Solar forcing, quakes & resulting volcanism sucked me into looking/thinking (insomuch as the idiot i am can) about the planet and her complex systems with very little thought given to potential external triggers. So easy (for me) to get into a head down/what’s in front of my eyes focus when a literal heads up focus is probably best.

Reminded once again that terrestrial events could very well be triggered by extra terrestrial causes. It seems more proof of that has been found and it is quite sobering.

In reading this peer reviewed report i cant help but wonder when will this happen again, what/how will our systems, models, capabilities perform or not & is this why underground mega-cities like Petra & Derinkuyu et al exist?

This is HEAVY stuff - i feel it’s appropriate in this thread given the quake/tsunami might or might not be a “simple” tectonics only event.

More un-nicer news making the rounds.. Freaking as if stuff could get worse - YEP, it sure can!
