Training: "My Last Dying Breath"

Though this site is generally wildland fire focused, this training video has a tremendous cross-discipline application because it focuses on the importance of training, your personal protective equipment, muscle memory, the need for mental health support after a critical incident, the danger of complacency, and learning from what others did correctly–and just as importantly, where/when they made mistakes that almost cost them lives.

It is an hour long. It includes lots of raw footage from helmet cams and personnel cams, and in-depth interviews of the survivors from 5 separate incidents that resulted in numerous life altering injuries/burns.

I give all credit for seeing this to the Secret List at www.FireFighterCloseCalls.com. If you don’t get their daily email summarizing incidents (both wildland and structural) it would be a good thing to do in 2026 to make you more safety aware. The Los Angeles City Fire Department professionally produced this training video that is well worth your time.
