Volunteer Dept sponsored Overhead

What’s the latest with retired guys getting sponsored by volunteer depts for overhead positions in CA? I remember a while back there was a crack down on how many they could roster, how far they could live from dept and needing to have a certain amount of normal duty hours at the station to be able to maintain sponsorship . Anyone know how this works now days ? Curious as I I get closer to retirement. Any info is appreciated. Thanks !

I was just having this conversation with someone the other day. It doesn’t seem to be being enforced from what I’m seeing. Maybe it was realized that it would decimate the teams? I’m curious as to the facts on this as well.

The California Fire Assistance Agreement spells out some of the rules for being a member of a Federal Team. I’m not sure how it is being enforced now, but when the language below first showed up in 2020, the federal teams lost a lot of qualified and experienced team members.

California Interagency Incident Management Team (CIIMT) Participation

Personnel responding under this Agreement, including those who apply for participation on a Federal California Interagency Incident Management Team (CIIMT), must be employed with a federal, state or local agency in a full time, seasonal, part-time or retired-annuitant position for a purpose other than participation on a CIIMT. The
CWCG coordinates the application and selection process for IMT rosters and may request proof of employment documentation as part of that process. Applicants who do not meet the criteria can apply under the casual hiring authority as outlined in the Standards for Interagency Incident Business Management.

So is there a min number of hours per year an employee must work to maintain part time status with sponsoring agency ?

I cannot speak to the requirements of sponsoring agencies. You would need to contact the agency.
