AlertWildfire Webcam - News and Discussion

Oh man…. Things are not looking good for this cam. Hope it’s not the first cam-casualty for the year.

For the AW folks:

Any discussion/consideration about providing a channel on the YouTube site for live streaming high-interest cams during significant incidents?

Would be fantastic to have a “tile” view of multiple cams that run live vs the typical 20 +/- second refresh rate.

Guessing there’s logistic/infrastructure considerations/limitations that would challenge this effort.

But hey, never hurts to ask. Right?

The short answer is in the future we will focus on lowering the 10-20 second refresh down to the point you are getting an image equal to or less than one second refresh where infrastructure can support. Hope this helps.

@ALERTWildfire I’m placing a resource request for the following camera sites.

RRU - Cahuilla Mountain
RRU- Mt. Estelle
VNC- Sespe Condor
LAC- Jupiter Mountain
LAC- Warm Springs
LAC- Whittaker Peak
LAC- Saugus

Any of these areas under consideration?

Thanks :slightly_smiling_face:

Ah Yup! Refresh rates in the +/- 1 sec range would do the trick (and would be fantastic!)

Considering I used to tolerate the refresh rates with HPWREN and SWFRS, even the current rates with AW are a dream

As always - thanks for everything the AW team is doing. Awesome stuff!

If you DM me coordinates I can check early next week. It is part of our practice to not report on potential new sites. Sometimes delays and other variables lead to longer online execution. At any given time there are a lot of sites in the works. I think you will be happy with what is in the pipeline. We are focused on resiliency and closing critical gaps where we can partner with the right people/agency.

@Keestrokes So last night we added a “Recently Installed Cameras” table and map to our Camera Status page. It will show you the most recent 15 installed cameras. Hope this helps.

Great idea, although it takes away from those of us that tracked the newly installed cameras. haha. Thanks for what you do!

Thank you and your crew. I’m from San Diego and Hans and his his crew installed the first set of cameras I knew how important this would be if we could take it to all of So Cal, but the group has taken this program to over 5 States and the list of other’s will I keep growing. Please extend a greatful thank you to all of those involved in this public safety project.

@Keestrokes Hans has been a major influence and we would not be where we are at without the outstanding work from HPWREN. I will definitely extend yours and everyone’s appreciation to our team.

@A904G Thanks for helping make others aware as we expand. We built the Status page as an internal tool to help monitor the health of the system and while it’s publicly viewable we don’t expect it to gain a lot of attention except from power users. Keep up the strong work. It takes a village!

I was in the Camino ECC in your infant stages, many years ago, and attended a couple of meetings as I was trying to get some of our cameras online. It was very relieving to have you take over the camera installation and maintenance job from those of us trying to figure out the basics of cameras. Carry on…
