Unbelievable! I’ve heard Big Basin State Park is gone too. I don’t know why more news hasn’t come out of Santa Cruz County.
40,000 acres. 15,000 over 8 hrs. Per news conference.
Talked to a member of the Strike Team that was assigned to protecting Big Basin Park Headquarters. They were able to save a few buildings but were forced out by fire. The comment was lucky to get out of there alive. Scary! Redwoods were crowning.

Santa Cruz County EOC spokes person Jason Hoppin, is requesting tourists and out-of-towners occupying hotels and motels to depart the County immediately to free up space for shelter capacity.
My heart goes out to these people.
Evacuation Order issued for Zayante Canyon at 13:00. I take that to mean the Fire is in the San Lorenzo Valley (highly populated) and continuing to march south.
