I heard the same thing on command. Air attack stated “ it’s making a hard push into Boulder Creek”. Nothing was said about Scott Valley.
Latest local media release regarding evacuations:
Where can I find an IAP?
Anyone have a link for IR thermal mapping of this incident?
I had the same question. Several links up above. Bear in mind all satellite maps have long delays, so not as accurate for decision making. I just learned that today after being glued to them. 🤦🏻
The NIROPS folder for the incident has a note that says ‘CZU August Lightning Complex IR is UTF for 8/21/20 . Stated reason: Duty Day Restrictions - Time’
Can anyone link IAP for 8/21-8/22 op period?
Info for everyone so we dont have the see the request for an IAP or maps every morning.
The Following will work for every fire once a team is assigned:
- go to the NIFC FTP server website. ( ftp.nifv.gov )
- click on incident specific data
- select your region (CALIF_N or CALIF_S)
- select 2020 federal or Calfire then 2020
- select your incident
you now have all the daily products, usually before the incident BOX links are even updated.
Any word if they’re moving ICP to Watsonville fairgrounds
I created a page with most of the useful links that I have garnered over the years from these forums, including the Maps links, satellite heat detections, Alertwildfire cams, and smoke and weather links. Sort of a one-stop shop. I created it for myself, but maybe some of the folks here will find it useful.
Will be challenging if that’s what is being thought of. As of this morning, the fairgrounds appeared pretty full with evacuees.
No move planned. Too far from the north zone of the fire
Any word of what’s left of downtown Boulder Creek or if that line held at all?
63,000 acres
5 percent containment
XLC 1204A STEN sent here after 6 days on the Lake, then 2 days on Holser and 2 days on River/Carmel.
The way I had to look at the exhaustion, was, I was gaining experience w
hat might have taken years to accumulate in a short period of time. That experience was something that would help me the rest of my career and something I could pass on to the next generation of firefighters. I would actually volunteer for extra shifts to gain that experience. Might have been a dumb way of looking at the situation, but gave me a better understanding of fire and its affects.
No disrespect, but my post was not about exhaustion. With Covid, the crews are getting motels, so are well rested, actually. In fact my crew is willing to extend past the 14 day timeout, and they are definitely gaining great experience. Same crew was on the 2017 siege. Went from the Canyon2 in OC to Tubbs. My post was simply adding to the information to bouncing so many resources around the state and that we are in this to do our best and resources are being pulled every which way.
Morning maps show the fire holding on the WEST side of Hwy 9, hasn’t crossed it.
