SW as a general direction per wind forecasting for several days of PM winds. Topography will funnel them locally, but there are a lot of aligned drainages to carry it to the E and NE I think. Reading the tea leaves.
Leek Springs, Big Hill and Saddle Mtn cameras time lapse showing strong pushes to the west. Stay safe ground pounders!
Hell Hole RAWS north of the area is showing conditions go down hill
To the east of the fire Kirkwood, at 9,000’ conditions are really bad. It will be interesting to see how far these winds travel down.
I’ve been watching the Spring Valley RAWS. Winds have been holding steady (2G4 or so) for the last hour, but RH just took a dive from 64 to 56 in a 10 minute period. EDIT: Now down to 41% another 10 minutes later and wind ticked up just a bit.
Good to see the winds didn’t surface over the fire area. It dried out, but hopefully night shift had a relatively easy night.
Can anyone post a recent IR image or current map of what fire did overnight?
I don’t know if this will help you.
Anyone have any idea what is showing on the SierraatTahoe webcam? Has the fire reached the granite?
Not yet, that’s one of the spots south of 50 from 2 days ago waking up.

Looks alittle Far East for that to be a spot from the Caldor??? That’s Pyramid in the background, this a new start???
It’s definitely further east than I would expect to see. Almost looks like it’s close to Strawberry/Twin Bridges
From the CalTrans CCT camera at Twin Bridges, this would appear to be in the Horsetail Falls area, possibly within the Desolation Wilderness boundaries.
Satellite shows a lot of smoke hung west of the crest near Echo. May just be smoke that looks ominous on camera?
If you play the 1 Hr on the Sierra at Tahoe cam it’s def not drift smoke
Prevailing winds in the area are pushing Caldor’s smoke away from that cam’s view shed. Looks like a new start. You can see the cam operator trying to focus on it and triangulate. Should be processed via Camino ECC, AEU/ENF. Somewhere between Strawberry and Icehouse Res.
Call just went out for an aircraft (Firewatch 509 out of Placerville) for an area check, south of Lake Aloha and West of Sierra Tahoe.
WATCH509 has ordered an Air Attack. This will be for south of Aloha, west of Sierra at Tahoe
Radio traffic was clipped so couldn’t hear if it was named or considred a spot which I doubt based on winds and distance.
Nice pick up there @captain71
Firewatch509 just reported that this smoke is coming up the canyon from the main fire. It is not a new fire. Air Attack is still enroute though.
Anyone have any info of western flank ? In particular in the sly park area. Camp creek drainage holding?
