CA-KNF-Antelope???

KNF reporting it grew by about 18,000 acres today (!). I guess it’s on again.

Looks like it ran into a whole bunch of lava. Those flanks could get squirrely if a thunderstorm or 2 pops up near there.

Not sure how recent this fuels model is updated from California Forest Observatory…
I have turned on= wind speed, fire heat, % canopy cover, ladder fuel density, surface fuels for fire spread.
Not sure if it has the fuels for the 2020 burn scar but, maybe
that lighter brown is it??
Play with the opacity on each layer.

This might be helpful in estimating the fuels out in front of this.

Caltopo shows some heat spot fires inside the fire scar. (could be spots)

Today’s OPS Map cropped to the pertinent portion of the fire:

As of about 30 minutes ago, the head of the fire was 10 miles directly north of the north tip of the fire showing there in section 3

This would put it around Sheepy ridge between the Tule Lake and Lower Klamath NWR? This would explain the mandatory evacs to the Oregon border now.

Asking for any available engines + water tenders from the local departments to report to Poverty Flat for structure protection, also AA just put in an order for a lead plane + 4 LATs for structure protection.

Edit: aircraft returning to base (presume visibility).

Lava Beds NP Closed:

Park Closure Due to Wildfire

[Alert 1 , Severity ,closure ,Park Closure Due to Wildfire](javascript:;)All area south of Gillem’s Camp are closed due to the encroaching Antelope Fire on the Klamath National Forest. Areas on the north end of the park such as Captain Jacks Stronghold and Petroglyph Point are open.

If there are fuels enough to spread into the park… I bet the entire park will close as did Lassen NP due to the Dixie. Just thinking so…

After the Caldwell fire last year I’d assume (hope) that everything in there should be pretty safe and the old perimeter will hold the Antelope on that side.
