From the KNF Facebook page:
FYI, as some had expected and per this morning’s NOPS sitrep page, China will be managed by the McKinney IMT.
Happy Camp is being set up for logistics due to the drive to and from Yreka.
China backed all the way to the Klamath through the day on div M. Inversion/weather kept behavior to a minimum.
Strike Team 6074C from Riverside County Op Area responding to the incident.
I think 6074c is going to McKinney
Maybe they got diverted, original order was for the McKinney.
#yetifire afternoon update: we’ve hit the height of the burn period and it’s hot and dry, as expected. We’re seeing an increase in fire activity, with fire backing in multiple fingers toward Highway 96 and increased activity on the southwest corner of the fire. So far, the fire has stayed within containment lines. Crews are working on the ground and helicopters are up in the air. We’ll update again if anything changes.
The noon IR looks like it has some fresh firing going on to keep ahead of the fire coming up on the SW corner.
One thing we’ve been noticing is Yeti Fire is pretty much surrounded by areas burned in past decade. Scars won’t stop Yeti’s spread, but 2020 Slater takes up most of the area between fire and Happy Camp. 2012 Goff Fire probably won’t slow fire down much, it hasn’t had a lot of management since the fire, but also, had a lot of low-severity fire then.
Seiad Valley local Jamie Allen sent photos of what looks to be great fire effects in area backing to River.
awesome. thanks…a picture is worth a thousand words
Video update
A wrapup of our maps and interpretation of existing intel for 8/4/22 for #McKinneyFire and #YetiFire is on The Lookout. McKinney and Yeti Fires – August 4, 2022 – The Lookout
Per the ops video “we successfully brought fire down to our line. We had our catchers mitt established and held the line” extremely descriptive I think and paints the picture
