I deliver supplies to Silver City Resort twice a week (Tue/Wed). Having retired from CDF in 1998, then having a 1-ton PU on agreement for 26 years, I still like to check the pulse on CA wildfires.

Looking pretty active as the smoke mixes out and the wind shifts around. Shot from buck rock.

AA15 was up at 9am this morning and copter 509 joined them about 1000. 509 Flew in from up north… didn’t track it to see where she was based.

Does Norcal scan have the frequencies for Air Tactics? Thanks. I’ll scan the Park repeaters for command.

Anyone know where the ICP is for this incident or where they’re building fire camp?

I believe I read ICP and camp is in Three rivers, I also looked on one of the maps and they have spike camps near the fire.

Updated acreage of 228 today at 1100

Drove through three rivers today not a trace of a camp that I could see. No signs etc if its there its small. Three rivers makes sense though.

With only 70 people I’d imagine they are running out of the park hq and camped at potwisha or Sequoia lodge campground.

Image taken from Woodlake area last night… Reminds me of Case Mt. in '87…

How did that fire go? Where did it burn and how did it act?

For those old enough to remember, the '87 Case Mountain Fire was ugly. Poor access, Steep, rocky terrain, hot temps. Long turn-around time on a steep, winding and narrow road. Though some good fuels work has, and is being done by the TCRCD and BLM, there is still a lot of fuel if this moves westward just a bit. Time will tell.

Pretty mulch what firedzr posted. I was on the fire for a couple weeks. I was on duty at Woodlake and we were watching the lightning out the back window. We looked at each other and said “well we’ll be gone soon”. The rest was history. Can’t remember the acreage now, but as stated “Poor access, Steep, rocky terrain, hot temps. Long turn-around time on a steep, winding and narrow road”. Base camp was at the 3 River roping arena… Heli base at Lake Kaweah. Case started pretty much the same manner as Coffee Pot. Minimal access at best. Significant fire behavior. Case was just west a ways from coffee Pot. Case was a walk-in initially until it brunt to us. Case was just west and a little north of where Coffee Pot is. The siege of '87 is a blur to me now.

During the Case Fire, a good friend was heli-base manager at Lake Kaweah. Copters were coming and going when someone noticed a fishing boat on fire. Kenny said, “somebody needs to call 911….Wait a minute….WE ARE 911”. An outbound copter made a well place drop on the boat. As the boat slipped beneath the surface and the occupants were seen swimming away, Kenny reported to Visalia ECC….”fire controlled”.

I was there and witnessed the drop on the boat. Was pretty cool. It happened near the shoreline and the boat occupants swam ashore and watched the driop lol. If Coffee Pot progresses I think we’ll see a heli-base at Kaweah again. if it has not already began to form.
