Watched a reporter question the LA Mayor about water supply/hydrant issues.

She did not answer the repeated question, referring to wind limiting aircraft use.

I wish she would have stated that hydrants and water systems are designed for one or two houses burning for a limited amount of time. A missed opportunity to inform!

NV Air National Guard got activated at zero dark thirty this morning. They’re getting the C-130s loaded with their MAFFS units today. Hopefully that’ll help with some air support. Haven’t heard how many tails they’re sending yet, but they’re coming!

Two NV ANG MAFFS have been assigned and the systems are being loaded.

Looks like their last drop was pre-treating the ridge along the trail portion of Mulholland Drive around San Vincente Mountain Park/Gizmo Peak.

GOES showed a short burst of fire North/West section (possibly interior) on the Palisade starting around 2320 GMT (1520 PST). It is pretty much gone now at 1735.
Probably a substantial island. Here is piece of a screen capture.
The fire NW of the Palisade is the Kenneth.

What’s your take on the risk of fire moving into Santa Monica ?

I think that burst is the new “Kenneth” fire. the other one is the Hurst? Kenneth IC said the south end of his “box” was the Palisades perimeter

I don’t think so
The Kenneth has not crossed 101 and is around Calabasas. Something like 10-15 miles N of Malibu.
Doubt that there is enough fire left in Hurst to see and it would be farther east.

A post script regarding the comment. The fire on the top right is the Eaton. That is about as far away as Long Beach.
The Palisade touches the Pacific firebreak. This screen grab from the GOES MESO stream has 2 separate hot locations within the Palisade footprint, one on the northeast and one in the southwest with a small non-hot area between. The fire to the north and west of the Palisade is confirmed as the Kenneth by it’s start time and when it faded from detectability. The heat on the bottom left side of the Palisade signature came and went in about 10 minutes. Suggesting significant heat that lasted only 10 to 15 minutes.

Look at the scale of that map. The distance between the fire on the left & the right is the same distance from Malibu to Long Beach

Idiots! Could have ended very bad.

A firefighting aircraft was grounded after it was struck by a civilian-flown drone while over the Palisades Fire on Thursday.

Circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation, but officials told the [Los Angeles Times] that the Super Scooper suffered a hole in its wing. It’s unclear how long the aircraft will be inoperable.

Here is a photo of the damage that occcured to “Quebec 1”

We just finished our evening livestream. We look at the tactics being used on the most-active SE corner of the fire, and after covering today’s basic fire action, we did an interview with journalist Susie Cagle about the impossibility of achieving wildfire resilience in many of our highest-risk cities and towns, and also, some places where a lot of progress is being made. Also, Susie talked about her new book that looks at the ways communities work together after major disasters.
