No media coverage for whatever reason.

flex alert…no coverage of brush fires :joy: jk I know AA was looking for a TFR but I don’t know if that would impact news coverage as news copters can film from pretty far out

Channel 5 was live overhead until about 10 minutes ago, then suddenly zipped away.

Anyone hear of an updated acreage? Last I’ve seen anywhere is 160.

Ops just talked to Command about meeting on top of the ridge to look at a “big box”

Big, way more than that, no official update though.

there’s a copter B407 cant see an ID on flight radar, that appears to be in the way of the tankers. The lead was trying to reach them on rotor tac and no reply

Hopefully the lake helps to hold most of that push towards it. Haven’t heard any long range spotting yet.

The last major extended-attack fire to ignite and burn this specific direction as well as burn a path between the I-5 and Lake Castaic was the Marple Fire of 1996 which --in a bizarre coincidence-- also started amid a dramatic heatwave at the tail end of August. The fire went on to consume 19,860 acres and burn much of the western edge of the chapparal west of Lake Castaic.

The way things are shaking out leads me to believe this fire will burn a much similar footprint for the next several days.
