Thanks for the post, I live on Gifford Springs. Not much left to burn here since the Valley Fire.
Mandatory Evacs pushed out to Ida Clayton to the south and Highland Ranch to the north
15 Type 1 Strike Team orders pending for this incident.
With the events that happened yesterday, the wind event and the fire budget being good from a slow Season youd think they’d be bringing fed engines and out of state engines in for when this thing blows up on sunday.
4690c TF inbound
Out of state is tricky- it has to come on Emac and there are thresholds that have to be met to allow that. As far as fed engines- the GACC’s make that call not the incident. There is a lot of FRA that will be under the gun this week as well so everyone is holding onto their initial attack capability.
Any idea why more VLATS aren’t assigned?
Aircraft are released every night and then re-assigned as they are requested by the ATGS.
OES Type 1 ST leaving XSJ at 0900.
Norcal74, appreciate the reply. Yes, I am aware that aircrafts are only daytime flying other than some specialty helicopters. And that the Airco decides with IC how air tankers. My only question is there are tankers 910, 911, 912, 914 and 944 available and they’ve only used 910 or 911.
The VLAT may not be the right aircraft for the work being done due to winds and terrain.
Because they are controlled by NICC and they may not want to move all the VLATs out of South ops with the predicted weather. Additionally, just because an aircraft is parked somewhere does not mean it’s available. The aircraft could be on a day off, or not on contract. 944 is only CWN and hasnt been activated. With the amount of aircraft they have had on this fire and the terrain, they might not want or need many VLATs tying up airspace.
Don’t think I’ve seen anyone talk about the shelter deployment yet.
