Salt Point, 3 acres in timber, good north wind on it. Doubled aircraft order, 5 more engines, 2 more crews.
5 LG water tenders just dispatched.
Big Resource request going out due to the fuels the fire is burning in, thick 12”+ duff and lots of debris hanging in the trees. Since the initial response sounds like an additional cal fire type 3 strike team. A total of 11 Water Tenders, a local government strike team (type 3, or 6). 8 total hand crews, 2 additional type 1 copters, a 3rd cal fire BC, and more that I missed. Short range spotting under the column per AA, not great visibility, resources working on Hwy 1 and holding the fire west of there and north of the next camp ground to the south (possibly ocean cove?).
The fire history when in a north wind pattern is significant. It burns well on the coast in a north wind situation.
There was a fair sized (for the time) out at Salt Point about 35 years ago. Sorry, I don’t remember much details, but it closed that part of the part for a year or more.
Local Govt T,ype 3 ST sent immediate need and to form at the scene
40-50 acres, moderate rate of spread. Evacuating park. Closing Hwy 1.
Mohrhardt Ridge
One additional Type 1 Air Tanker for a total of 2. Relief AA for 1740 hrs.
Hwy 1 closed North from SP to Stewart Point Skaggs Springs Rd.
There is a large amount of downed fuel load in this general area as well due to numerous typical high wind events along the coastline. Lots of available ground fuels.
Interesting. Per IC, no CalFire Command will work out there. They will stay on Local, T12. There was a resource order as well…didn’t catch it.
15 closest any type engines, and 3 Cal Fire T3 Strike Teams, cal Fire can respond code 2 to staging
Must be a strong North wind as the smoke seems to be hugging the ground.
Exactly what the AA said when he got on scene.
Radio communications along this stretch of Hwy 1 have always been sporadic at best. Local Gov units often utilize their own frequency (Coast Blue) to communicate car-to-car. We rely on some text to 911 to receive emergency calls from parties reporting in this region as cell services are also sparse.
