Any one got the scanner links? Cant seem to find a good one without mix traffic
The heel one behind that is just as impressive
I believe the LPF scanner link is on LPF Forest Net and per the IAP the fireās on Admin, so traffic is limited so far
Look at the BDF Line fire 2024. Lost a historic lookout site on one side of the fire, and had massive fuels work done around both the Heaps Peak comm site and Helibase so those would not suffer the same fate. Crews are great, but bring in the masticators and bring them in months ago. Its happening everywhere, Units/Forests need to be proactive rather than reactive when it comes to critical infrastructure.
Tankers dropping on that distant lookout now
Almost every COM site is subject to destruction by a wildfire.
Been stated over many times, when I was employed installing microwave antennas with UCSD/HPWREN from 2004 through 2012.
Agencies that own mountain top sites only care about large $$$ revenue from leases. Sadly so, risk of loss is very high and minimal defensible space hasnāt been a priority!
Also aerial Retardant drops may save the infrastructure, but really can cause longtime issues with cable connections, hardware and the tower structures. As we all know these retardants are corrosive if left alone on most exposed metals.
What if the infrastructure & technology in the flammable places had the ability to self-shelter in a more hardened structure in order to survive the times when fires (and other un-nice environmental factors) are a concern? Hard to do anything but get humans out of the way when fire - like this one - exceeds the nomogram / fire spread model predictions. If someone were to offer an āX prizeā or similar incentive for development i have zero doubt that somebody would come up with a solution that far exceeds what we have now. Just a couple things iām grinding on as i watch things unfoldā¦
That already exists but @apx8000 can explain things way better than I can.
AA is grounding all fixed wing. Iām wondering if thatās a turbulence issue.
ā¦it is really pushing very hard now.
I heard, second hand, that ground personnel were pulled off the line earlier.
At this point i literally would not be shocked - at all - if it pushed to Hi-Mtn or Pozo before all is said/done.. And, If not this one the next one in that range prob will.
Is there much SRA in that area?
Yes. Thereās a mix of both FRA/SRA.
My prediction is itāll burn to the backside of Cachuma Lake, Highway 33, and possibly the Pozo area too. If winds swap around, it could push toward Huasna as well. This has a great deal of potential.
south end still steady south east runs
