Fairly active when I passed it along the 299 last night around 2100. From what I could see, maybe 20 acres?
As reported, just a few miles outside of Adin (east) on the north side of the 299. From what I could see, a mix bag of local, state, and fed resources staged off the highway.
The afternoon has been the typical aircraft organized chaos of a lightning complex. Scoopers working out of Clear Lake Reservoir (Natl Wildlife Refuge) and bouncing between (map links) Caldwell, Allen and Dalton.
LATs out of KFalls and Redding, VLATs out of Medford (T944 out of KMCC), S2’s reloading out of Chester, SEATS out of KFalls and Lakeview. MAFFS04 working out of Redding. MAFFS06 still at KMCC. The Natl Flight Following headset at North Ops is smokin’
Caldwell is very active, according to NWS Medford. From a tweet 17 minutes ago:
“We’re monitoring a scary situation for the #firefighters of the Caldwell #Fire. The smoke has developed into a “pyrocumulus” and has been generating lightning strikes for the last couple of hours. It will likely continue to do so until sunset.”
