They talk about the “old scar” a lot on the radio. They don’t sound like it’s a good thing it’s hitting there IMO.
It has spread about 4,000 feet into the burn in the 15 hours before 13:45, today.
Bad news is that this fire is past the Ferguson Fire dozer lines (Black) on the east side, and northern tip. Seems to have bumped one of them north of Jerseydale, and they still may be useful toward end of Scott Road. White line is 15 hours of spread.
He said it like 3 times so I hope I got it right
Aircraft order for tomorrow AA over the fire at 0800 and 1 ASM and 3 type 3s tsnkers and 2 type 1s tankers available at 0800
We don’t make up the plan, just execute it… lol
The amount of smoke moving due north over the Sierra is not the pattern I am familiar with. It is filtering out into Northern Nevada a bit but it seems mostly to be filling in the Sierra drainages all the way up to Chester and wrapping around and obscuring Shasta. The quantity of smoke in Quincy makes it look like the fire is right next door. Is this common and I just haven’t noticed before?
Not common winds for us usually but did see this wind pattern during creek fire too I believe
High pressure east of the sierras and a little low pressure area over black Butte lake is pulling smoke to the west.
Aircraft all sound busy chasing down a good number of spots.
They are about ready to start a community meeting. It is being live streamed.
Dean said in the community meeting that the fire is progressing onto the SNF. Curious if they’ll put a fed IMT on it with Cal Fire Team 5. Maybe use Team 15 that’s already closing up the Washburn or imbed some Fed folks into the Cal Fire Team 5 org chart. “Seems” like not a whole potential for it to make any significant suppression challenges in that scar so long as it doesn’t skirt it and push out around it?
sounds like pumpkin time for all aircraft
also, lets pray for the folks out on the line and they are successful for hold the lines…safety first
That won’t happen, they’ll stay in unified command. Adding an additional team would be very disruptive to the operation. Team 15 will be engaged at least until next weekend on the Washburn.
Some radio traffic highlights from this afternoon
*Scnieder Rd has a slop over. In Div Nov
*Spot fire between Div H and Div L
*Slopover in Owl Creek
*Fire is hung up on Skeleton Creek headed towards Road 63C.
*Owl Creek has some small spots and the Golf Crew should be able to pick those up quickly
*Fire has not crossed Skeleton Creek but it is close in some areas
Owl Creek refers to the owl Creek near Footman Ridge… Not Bootjack area… Lots of drops happening in the Footman area today. This is a key point for them.
Did anyone notice the wind shift within the last few hours? If it blows from the north all night it could be a game changer if it burns like it did last night.
At the community meeting he did state he felt a lot better about Branch 5 DIVS R and N. I just heard DIVS M report that it was going well. It could be a slight test on that side.
…And they said 15,603 acres.
First time since the fire started that I haven’t seen a towering column! Looking at Wawona RAWs, it’s looking like better rh recoveries tonight. Hopefully we will see some containment tomorrow.
which branch is mike in
It is not on the IAP so I believe it must be an expansion DIVS. If I were to bet, just looking at the map, I would bet on BR-3 (or BR-III). It would be close to the BR-3/BR-5 break since that’s where it would fit. I haven’t been paying a lot of attention to the radio tonight, but if I had I would have heard who he gave his report to.
Update: There is no DIVS M on this morning’s IAP or maps so I must have not heard correctly.
