PGE Map locations have changed many times due to their server overloads.

Here is the outage map:

Buckle up for this weekend. Major event expected Saturday evening into Monday afternoon, potential for over a million customers. PGE still defining the scope and scale of this as meteorologists get more accurate models. Looking at Ventusky wind forecasting, 60+ mph on valley floor Shasta down to Solano/Napa, 80+ in the Cascade Sierra Burney down through El Do.

Humboldt Co and the NorCal coast are schedule to go off in the early afternoon. The red flagged areas are the corridors for our legs of the grid. The NWS Forecast Discussion has been consistent with on the ground observations, so the 96 hour PSPS looks like it might actually happen. Last night, Trinity Co OES issued a PSPS advisory for the Trinity River canyon, downriver from Junction City.

Buckle up is right.

NWS:

FIRE WEATHER…A midlevel shortwave trough is forecast to move south across northern California Saturday night. As that occurs, a strong area of surface high pressure will spread south over northern California and the adjacent Great Basin. Intense east- northeast flow at or above 50kt will develop over ridges. In addition, model forecast soundings indicate a stable layer will be located near 3000 feet MSL. The combination of intense cross barrier flow, a ridge top inversion, and a critical level associated with flow reversal aloft with the mid-level shortwave will favor the development of highly amplified mountain wave structures supportive of peak wind gusts from 60 to 80 mph downwind from higher ridges. In addition, northeast winds will usher in a critically dry boundary layer airmass across northwest California Saturday night through Sunday. The combination of strong winds and low humidity values will favor the potential for fast moving wildfires across areas of dry fuels. The inherited Red Flag remains in effect for elevations above 1500 feet in southeast Humboldt, southern Trinity, interior Mendocino, and northern Lake counties. In addition, the start time has been changed to 10 PM Saturday based on the onset of strong ridgetop winds depicted in hi-res model guidance.

Possible shutdown for eastern mmu and FKU today.

Second (third for some) PSPS event coming roughly Tuesday 0600 to Wednesday 1200. Smaller scope, not fully defined yet until the WX models get more accurate, but looking at 520k vs the current 940-970k customers affected. PGE will continue re-energization efforts for the 10-26 event up to the de-energization time for the 10-29 event.

That’s what we’re hearing up on the north coast. We just re-energized.

Some friends of ours lost power during the wind event yesterday (not in a PSPS area) due to damaged powerlines and were told by PG&E that it would be a while because they’re prioritizing re-energizing the PSPS area over restoring those outside the PSPS areas

Is this really how we are going to live in the 6th largest economy in the world in the 21st century? PG and E needs to be broken up while in bankruptcy and the local jurisdictions can take over and decide if local weather conditions warrant such extreme measures. This cannot become the new normal…

More like the 6th for some of us in the foothills

Weirdly enough yesterday as they shut down power from oakhurst south to pine flat reservoir they left power on for the community of prather, as I was heading to work through auberry I noticed everyone southwest of the pg&e yard(no power) had power until 11am today before being shut off, well after all of the fire weather concerns had passed. Meadow lakes, auberry, and prather are only 8 miles as a crow flies total distance.

I can see the aubery hydroplant from my house on the road to redinger and we got shut off early. They must be working their way back to the yard, makes sense to save the local legs for last.

Prather had power until 10-11am yesterday before it was shutdown, I think it was done so crews could check lines in that area just in case something was wrong even though prather got very little wind. the all clear was given at 7am for pg&e to start restoring power and they had it back on by 5:30. The guys checking the lines kicked butt.
