Very rugged and nasty country
May run into the “Palm Fire” from the mid 90’s. Also no adequate water supply was nearby.

Scattered structures dotting the pass, but nothing recent/significant that’ll help box it in. Wind forecast doesn’t look too out of the ordinary, fortunately. Flats (2021) is likely filled with grass by now

The Palm fire was July 1994, and that one freight-trained thru Pinyon.

Was back there on a MVU-Engine ST doing structure protection. Also a CNF ST, as we 10 engines fought hard to save 15 structures but finally lost two due to lack of water.

My attempt at a @pyrogeography inspired map of the last 35 years of fire history for this area.

Per the last map and looking at the wind it appears to be heading onto the Forest, mixed DPA with the areas of structures.

good thing about the desert, there are three network channels providing tv & internet news. Rosa Fire: 1200 acres, Highway 74 shut down from Highway 371 to Palm Desert - KESQ
search KESQ, KMIR, or the Desert Sun newspaper for coverage.
