Unbelievable $ Costs?

What were the values at risk compared to the cost of fighting the fire? When the 580 was shut down how much commerce was lost? Just throwing that out there and things to think about.

How is that question relevant to anyone on here. Can we please keep these threads just talking about the fires activity this year. Start a comerce thread if that’s your concern. Be safe everyone

That’s about $247 per acre in direct suppression costs.

Fuel treatment per acre can cost around $25-100 per acre depending on size of project, type & size of Fuel Loading.

CALFIRE WPA costs approx $50/acre.

“Keeping costs comenserment with values at risk” is ALWAYS a management object. From the IC down to the FF on a Pulaski.

That is what the IA/extended attack threads for. Asking a question specifically about the costs and values at risk of this particular fire seems like it belongs here in the questions and discussions thread.

Personally, I have learned a ton from the question and discussion threads here and on the old hotlist. For me, that is a huge part of the value of this site. It is rare to find the amount of fire history and expierence that we have on here, and it would be a shame to not be able to learn from the expierence and different points of view. As long as the question or discussion is about the incident, I would like to keep them.

No it isn’t. No one cares how much shutting down 580 cost.

Actually a lot of people do care. Shut down the highway for more than 15 minutes CHP has to notify the governor’s office. Which means the CF IC has to explain why. Millions of dollars of commerce use that corridor and any diversion as a financial impact on those companies. I agree sometimes we go off on tangents but having been an IC and even as a company officer you need to be thinking of these things and the down stream implications.

Just an observation, but that post you referenced didn’t come until after the fire was out. That means it didn’t detract from the intel gathering uses of this site and was merely a discussion starter. What you or I may find to be superfluous information may be important to others. The world needs more civil discourse and discussion, so long as it doesn’t detract from the mission. I found the article to be rather intriguing given the short time the fire burned relative to the cost incurred. I am sure that shortly there won’t be much time to post about things like that, but for now, what’s the harm in keeping the conversation going. My 2 cents respectfully. All stay safe and keep up the good work!

The post about the costs was in reply to my post about the injured firefighters. Why?

Flyron replies to the previous poster every time he posts something in a thread.
