It appears from downtown Weed that they just fired off the Everett Memorial Highway. Anyone have any intel? Huge header, and fire is way south of where it was this morning.

So it seems this is a type 1 incident now. Just do the complexity analysis and it comes out as type 1. Nothing against the type 2 teams, but the type 1 teams have more staff and positions filled to manage a fire of this complexity.

I can’t speak to the current staffing of Federal teams, but the only difference with the roster of positions is that the T1 teams carry Branch Directors. Almost all of the R5 T2 teams are very capable of managing a type 1 incident, and many of them have Branch Directors on their roster.s Ultimately the decision to transition an incident is made by the host agency. If the T2 is doing a good job and meeting the incident needs, no need to add complexity to the incident with a transition.

Not even sure why Todd gave an apology. The fire staff work for the District Ranger not the Forest Fire Manager (Chief 1/2). The District Ranger should be the one taking the heat for the people they supervise. But props for Todd to stand up and take the hits, leadership and providing top cover to resources that do not even work for him. Hope they gain some ground. This should be another eye opener about conditions we all face this year. Dry fuels resistant to control.
