CA-SNF-Garnet ???

Copter 516 located the first of 4 smokes all nearby Wishon Reservoir
First fire reported is the Village Fire at 37.026833 x - 118.927667 due east of the reservoir.

3 Additional smokes reported (unnamed so far) south and west of the reservoir by the copter 516 and down north fork of the kings river. Copter close fly by was the only reason these were found.

516 now sees another 2 potential smokes…

All under 1 acre and slow ROS.

H516 is beginning crew insertion to the garlic incident. LZ has been approved per the forest. There was also an additional report of smoke about 45 ago from garlic IC. Sounds like it was ridegtop and “it could get nasty, this needs to be a priority”

SNF also has jumpers on order.

Edit : saw and handline complete on the village fire (SE of wishon)

5 jumpers will be on forest from Redding, Forest plan is to insert them on 3 fires near graveyard meadow. Near lake Edison.

Mods…do we need to separate these out? I am not sure which fire is 100 acres and which has 12 or so aircraft on it.

Garnet Fire looks like it is about to get some unwelcome help from upper level (mtn wave) winds.

Sorry for the many pictures but the sequence showing how the fire and unstable atmosphere can cooperate big time is worth a look.

90 minutes later.

Was FOBs up on the Basin Fire last year hiking along Rogers Ridge trying get access out to the end of the Rogers Ridge rd. Almost got to end but too many big down trees from the Rough Fire across to west end of the road. Heavy dead and down on the upper 1/3 of the slopes on the south aspects. North aspects have heavier components of white thorn and manzanita more like a fm 5 age class. Difference is this fire is almost 2 months later than the Basin Fire and the shrub component may not provide as much of barrier to spread due to live fms being higher.

There has been a wind shift on the Garnet. Wind is now from the (roughly) south. Likely to help the fire burn through what retardant that there is on the left flank. The activity on the lower right flank has picked-up.
As I suggested, danger.

The forest pulled the trigger on a team. Assume team 10, but have not confirmed yet

It’s gotta be running through the Basin Fire scar, only 1 years worth of regrowth should be light and flashy
