Crews responded to trail head for 1.5 hour hike in show. AA request water dropping copter. This is new lighting fire with heavy ground fuels and one standing tree on fire with slow backing down hill ROS.
Copter made 2 hours of drops and estimate of overnight growth to 1 acre. BC31 request is to cancel walk in show tonight and start in at sunrise due to low potential.
Air Tactics 43 was used.
Crews returned to quarters.
East of Big Meadows forest station and camp grounds, Jennie Lakes Wilderness.

A post was merged into an existing topic: Should we do a better job at explaining why we monitor fires, or suppress them immediately?

I will be out of town today and not able to update until tonight.

However, crews are making the walk in and AA is up requesting a type 2 or better
copter… ground fire is only slightly larger with one standing snag on fire.

Heard the comms on way out of town. Sounded like the crews got into the fire by dawn and lined it. Additional crews responding where cancelled. AA flew the fire and cancelled the bucket copter. It was placed in patrol status.

Thank you for the update

Hand crew walked into fire and said fire did not grow, the line held. They found heat inside fire and proceeded to mop up. Still remains in patrol status.
