CA-TNF-Mosquito??

Agreed, AA is definitely keeping an eye on that side of the fire

Anyone hear if the state will put a team on this too? Seems like they may have a big stake in this one.

There is one VLAT enroute. It was mentioned two posts before yours.

Sounds like they had to task an escort mission to help the Duncan Peak lookout back down the hill to Foresthill.

No it’ll be unified command. Two teams would be overkill at this point.

Fire cams don’t do justice to the header. From Placerville about 15 minutes ago, it was looking like the King Fire did in 2014, when it made its Wednesday run.

Best not to put two teams on one fire, it hardly ever works well–particularly if from different agencies. If the state has a large stake in the results or concerns of strategy & tactics because of land ownership, then proper and full implementation of Unified Command would be the best method.

I remember that run. From Stumpy meadows past Eldecot (sp) bridge past Goggins to damn near French Meadows and Nevada Ridge. Close to 12 miles if I remember right. Came out of a meeting in Auburn around 15:30 and couldn’t believe how far it had gone in 2 hours

Sounds like it has jumped Middle Fork American at Ralston Picnic area and headed east up the ridge between MFAR and Rubicon River.

Just talked to an operator at MFPH and former Hotshot . Fire has definitely jumped the river at little circle bridge, that’s Ralston day use area. She’s making a hard push up Ralston ridge. He said it’s the real deal and is heading out towards Georgetown via Ellicott s bridge to Wentworth Springs road. There is a back road between the powerhouse and Blacksmith Flat, so they don’t have to go all the way around by French Meadows. He just texted, blowing up, no doubt

Side note: They just cleared the Middle Fork-Gold Hill 230KV line. That’s a loss of 200MW into the grid at Folsom. MFPH unit 1&2 and Ralston PH combined generation. Probably more like 219MW. French Meadows PH at He’ll Hole resv, ( I know confusing) uses the 60KV line to MFPH to transmit it’s power out the 230

Unless its been repaired in the past year there was a large slide a few years ago just past Blacksmith Flat and the road was impassible.

Let’s keep cam links focused on the current topic.

Sad he has to get approval to drop water? Did I read that right, with that fire behavior?
Really?

AFAIK it has not been repaired, and that may be a contributing factor to the inability to hold it while it was small.

I believe the 2017 slide is still there. Not positive?

Road is still blocked above Ralston PH since 2017. It’s a long way around to get above that slide to corral this beast… Seems likely it’s gonna make a run to mirror the 2006 Ralston fire and possibly more. That one finally got stopped on Ralston ridge side, after Robinson Timber brought in their own dozers and threatened to start cutting line on their and the Fruit Growers property.
Rocky Oplinger was the FS IC, and his original box was almost a mile further than it ended up to be.

Any recent fire history this should run into that might be helpful? I can see some burn scars on the cams
