They do that only if approved by the AirOps assigned by responsible agency without Night Helco. If a second night aircraft is added, then you’ll need Night Ops Helco assigned.

I think the entire situation ha been underestimated. I have been assigned to several fires in that area and all became a BIG problem.

Looks like Fed with conservancy and inheld land.

If it’s not green it is private land there. And there are houses/cabins on a lot of parcels down there. Not SPI land or anything like that. More like private rec land

This article states. “The origin of this natural disaster has been tentatively traced to an escaped campfire that was first discovered by hikers. While investigations by Cal Fire Nevada Yuba Placer Unit and the Tahoe National Forest are ongoing to confirm the cause, the relation between the initial campfire and the subsequent Royal Fire continues to be looked into closely.”

Zephyr winds just now developing.

Hopefully, a lack of contiguous fuels will help contain this. However, as we saw with Caldor, when wind, terrain, etc come into alignment, you can get moderate to long range spotting that can hop scotch its way across the granite, from one island of fuel to another.
