If push comes to shove I bet the feds have openings. Always an option.

The feds have released statements that they are hurting for bodies.

Like Enginebell said " Rumors are always out there". TCU has hired a bunch of younger BC’s. There are great guys and bring a lot to the table. TCU also have some very knowledge Captains which are great people themselves. As with a young work force from unit chief on down. TCU may have a few growing pains. Take the good with the bad which is in every unit. I see a lot of good things happening in that unit with who they have promoted.

“We have a real problem with recruiting, with morale, with retention, and it’s because we have not let the budget and the investment keep up with the scope of the problem,” said Orange County Rep. Katie Porter at a congressional hearing last month. Wondering at the difference in pay between federal and state agencies, she asked: “Why would anyone want to be a federal firefighter?”

I didn’t hear until July last year. You should have a good shot this season. Keep training and you’ll get the call hopefully.

TCU has already hired up to June 14th. In the past seasons they have hired into August and even September so if the funding / need is there you should be selected as category 2. In the mean time do what you can to get yourself placed into category 1 and update your certifications as permits.

Try to get the certificates to get category 1.
What certificates are you missing ?

Are you only wanting TCU because you live there or are you wanting that unit because of what they have to offer? Did you rank the other units as well on your application? More often than you’d think CAL FIRE FF’s drive 3+ hours to their station each shift. Only because that will open your chances of getting called anywhere else in the state instead of limiting to one unit.

Basically both, I live close and I also like what they have going on out here. I also applied for Amador-El Dorado unit. I wish I could’ve redone my app because I would’ve put a lot more selections than I did. If I don’t get called that’s what I will be doing next go around because I have no problem driving far.

Any word on any more Cal Fire category 2 hires ? Thanks

From what I overheard in my units office (again could have misheard) HUU is done hiring for the year. But don’t let that detract you from your top units picking you. ALSO the feds I believe might be doing late season hiring so be sure to reach out to any places you may have applied for on USA jobs.

CAL FIRE seasonal hiring is pretty much done for the year unless there is some sort of mid-season augment. I don’t think that will happen as we are already augmented with extra firefighters.

Units are currently putting on new hires with little to no notice. It’s almost garunteed units will do last minute hires as well as late hires.

you may get a phone call at 1650 on a Friday afternoon to be instructed to show up at some CDF headquarters on Monday at 0800…

Oh, and btw, show up early, you’re on time…show up on time, you’re late.
