There’s so much to watch while running a saw, even just limbing and bucking, seeing how the wood is tensioned, how it reacts when being cut. I’d see this thing getting halfway through its first or second cut, then getting the saw pinched. Or crushed because it misread the limb weight or lean while falling a tree, or not knowing what to do when you take out an undercut and flames come shooting out…
Research aircraft to fly into wildfire smoke columns.
Its just like the uas autonomy suppression silicon valley push right now. When it matters most these will become ineffective. Everyone keeps talking about time to get to the fire but not brining in rate of spread into the equation, or maybe just omitting it all together.
Heavy lift uas will be great for logs support.
Uas already proved itself for firing ops,
Intel gathering with thermo maps and live streams.
Im very bearish on its ability to make a difference when things are in alignment from the get go.
Ororatech is a cool system, been demoing it the last two months or so at work.
It could use some work, but as a system, a bit more promising than earth fire alliance (Fully aware ones for profit, one is not)
why would you call it more promissing. EFA has not even really started yet. Are you talking about their web portal? This is not a knock ororatech but i would not call it like this earth shattering concept. And yup one ya got to pay for but man in todays age as soon as EFA gets their data out to public you will see some nice vibecoded web apps turned around quick.
Resolution matters. EFA resolution will be limited and is aiming around 80m, with a 5x5m fire detection.
I could be wrong, and would gladly be, but resolution is a KPI for me and my work.
Huh 80 meters, thats less than a football field and thats not gonna be good enough? What sort of work do you do? but you should go read the fine print on that 20meter number and where if actually applied.
I think this conversation would be best continued on another platform. I will message you on linked in.
I did not want to crosspost but not sure how many people are following the TAK channel
But I have a new plugin out that I think you are gonna like.
Got some more new plugin videos over at the TAK Channel
Esri NIFS in atak as a plugin, login and sync a fire.
Comms Plugin , find your repeaters (CA/R5) for now.
Alert Wildfire and traffic cams.
Looking for any HFEOS state, fed, local that might be on Android to look at a beta plugin i have called Dozer Country.
Has NWCG guidelines and terrain data, you draw are of interest it makes a heat map for you.
would love some feedback, testing. like all my plugins it will be free open source.
Questionable effectiveness IMO ?
Finally, someone has heard the desperate pleas from wildfire operators for precision-guided hydro-munitions! And if we can drop them from 12,000 feet, we can fly IR at the same time!
Bring on the carpet bombers!
I love the CoE and glad that industry went to them for vetting but the narrative does not hold water. Mega fires happen because small fires we cant get to are left to their own devices. Thats not from CoE but being told by the vendor in their marketing. So who is saying this?. I have been pretty vocal on linkedin about this and the constant argument that we need to adapt and change the way we do business, the constant framing that we need to treat wildfire like an armed conflict and be in the air before the fire yada yada yada. Im just a harden your home person. None of this will matter when wind, fuel and terrain are in alignment at ignition. Pretty sad actually to see some fire folks on their boards taking money and nobody saying, yeah this isnt going to make the impact when it matters most.
I can see it now. A-10 warthogs on IA and 52’s after IA fails.
Sounds like the same chorus singing no place for VLATs song. Fire industry will always have folks looking for a better mousetrap. Some have merit and some die a natural death
