Latest is not really "Latest"

When I come on the site, I generally just want to see the latest posts, and sort them with my eyes.

Seems that after some recent site update, things are not sorting as they should.

For instance, the Bonanza fire in AEU yesterday was never appearing in the “latest” list. Lots of other topics days old were.

That will happen when the Mods move post from one thread to another, which happened with the ‘Bonanza’ thread. When we move a post, it does not get reordered into that thread in a sequential fashion. In a normal post by post circumstance, the posts will be ordered in a sequential timestamp fashion.

I hope this helps clarify why and how things will sometimes be out of sequence

Well something has recently changed. No recent items from the IA or Q&D comes up using the “latest” url. …Wildfire Intel (unless the mods are doing a while bunch of moving, this did not occur prior to the update)

Yet when I click on the CA & HA category I see a whole bunch of recent posts today.

I knew the postings seemed abnormally slow…

I get this for the latest

Yes, nothing in my “latest” when I got in today except 2 ongoing threads about NOPS and SOPS wx and this thread. Nothing about IA or Q&D

Yes, I’ve been having the same problem. While investigating it I noticed that after the update under Preferences for my account a bunch of categories were added to the Muted category which reads:

“You will not be notified of anything about new topics in these categories, and they will not appear on the categories or latest pages.”

I unselected all of those, will see if that helps.

Yea, same thing as site “IA threads” don’t show up in the “Latest” like before? :eyes:

Bingo…for some reason half the forums on here got added to my muted list (Including everything “CA & HA” based). “unmuted” them and now they appear under the “Latest” URL. Suggest it would be a good idea for people to check their muted lists.

Profile —> Preferences —> Tracking —> scroll down to muted

Looks also like some of the other “Tracking” settings got changed for me also.

Good old modern software, just break everything without telling anybody and let them fix it. Those settings were not easy to find but I think I got it

It’s a community - we get out of it what we put in.
There were definitely some times on the old site when a key member who’d been holding down a large chunk of geography moved or got too busy where you could really see how important a single person can be to keeping this all together.

Thanks for the explanation. Updated my preferences and - viola - problem solved. Something in the weeks ago update changed my settings. Now everything is updating as it did before.

Much appreciated…

If everybody’s settings got messed up like mine did, most members are not seeing the daily active incident threads, which will lead to total lack of engagement, since most will not know the info is there.

I followed @tumbleweed instructions in the post, above, and I think that fixed it.

Yep, thanks @tumbleweed! I was wondering why it’s been so quiet here. Most of my categories were muted, too.
