NWS Sac - Near record high temps are possible Friday. There will be widespread areas of High Heat Risk in the Valley on Friday, so avoid outdoor activities during the warmest hours of the day and stay hydrated. This heat will impact everyone, not just those sensitive to heat risk!

This is going to verify. Perhaps max temperatures are a little below originally thought but widespread excessive heat watches are in effect as posted above. It looks like a transient ridge will rebuild the heat wave around the 15th/16th before additional troughing comes back to north ops.

Looks like a slow-moving thunderstorm has put some good juice into the Northern Sierra this afternoon. Seeing road closures on Highway 36 around Guernsey Creek and in the Feather River Canyon due to slides/debris flows.

Lookouts in NEU just downstaffed due to lightning in the area. Rain and lots of down strikes last night in BTU. No sleepers popped up…yet. :crossed_fingers:

Do they normally downstaff lookouts due to lightning ? I thought they upstaffed during lighting events .

As the active cells pass in the vicinity of the tower, the individual either hangs out in the tower cab on an insulated stool or bed( old school glass insulators as the feet on the legs) and stay off of the radio, or they just leave the cab/ tower completely to a residence or lower floor.

After the cell passes or deemed safe they will return to the cab and scan for smokes.

Same yet different uses for the term “downstaff” … Momentarily or seasonally.
