Can you post a link for the scanner please?
Ah, thank you for that sir. Looking at the IR footprint I figured it was. Well, if it does make it there, just thinking. Looking at the IR map, I now see perimeter is close with spots down canyon on the main road, but not at the mine pit yet.
Sounds like they might have picked up the spots east of 395. They’re verifying now
I realize 395 is of big concern. Any early intel on if fire spotted over 88 in Woodfords Canyon? Morning satellite indicates a lot of heat pushing that way and last night IR shows a lot of intense heat hanging on that ridge above 88. This cam shows the southerly flow pushing the column towards/over 88. Based off the map Im looking at this would be Div F. Hope it holds, losing that line would be a whole other ball game.
It has NOT crossed Hwy 88 to the north. Any satellite data is pretty skewed for that area due to the narrowness of the canyon.
Always recommend to take with grain of salt and I’ve seen it be close, but a little off.
Using VIIRS or MODIS has always meant to take “nominal” detection into consideration. It’s still a very good tool in the box of fire behavior analysis for indications of fire heat, intensity and direction of spread. Especially if you consider it over the Op’s maps put out once a day if that which comes from the evening NIROPS. Given the narrowness of the Carson Pass, there is a greater propensity for pre conditioning of fuels from convective heat. It’s going to be a tough canyon to hold with southern winds expected to present today. Lots of funky eddy’s. Until they button it up from the top of Hawkins they will continue to see this. Thoughts?
The woodfords canyon predominately experiences down canyon winds while primarily being sheltered from most north or south wind directions. That being said, the fact that this canyon is quite twisty allows for that down canyon wind to eddy and push embercast and columns from this fire across to the north side.
Thank YOU!
The fire is well established on the East side of 395. Confirmed by boots on the ground.
Fire has jumped 395 just North of Holbrook Junction and is on the ridge about the subdivision of Topaz Ranch Estates. Hopefully, I really mean hopefully the 2 old burn scars around the subdivision will slow it down enough to stop it before it runs through the neighborhood of about 250 homes. Very visible on the bald mountain cam.
The 1 hr loop is quite telling
TNKR912 is back in the air, off of McClellan.
