Pretty interesting weather setup tomorrow, it’s like an outside slider but moves close enough to the coast to bring precipitation. Most interesting part is the convective potential with a lot of sunshine and elongated hodographs we could see a low topped supercell or two.

Got dualing lows with one north of Merced. There’s decent convective activity from monterrey south and some trying to get going in fku.

This is something you don’t see every day in the sky above Sonora. The American White Pelican heading north. We have been greeted by them two days in a row. It’s a great looking Monday morning temp is 51, sunny with no wind. Weather man says a warm up starting Wednesday. My old captain would say " you can hear the grass grow on those warm March days".

That very cool! I’m over in Oakhurst area for a few days and saw a bunch of geese flying around earlier. Drove around the lake yesterday and up into North Fork and I just can’t look at forest /urban interface the same anymore and it’s just scary over here. Interesting seeing all the “matchstick” trees left from the bark beetle kill. Worried about how much branch and pine needles now surround each one too.

Near maximum strength Santa Ana wind event on Pi Day. 850 mb wind support and a slight Foehn component along with the cold upper level low in the Mojave desert should drive winds into valley locations. There could be a downed tree and power line threat because the ground is pretty saturated from recent rainfall.

At 4:19 AM PDT, Thursday, March 14th, 2024, a Weather Underground instrument at Cascadel Heights measured a sustained east to southeast wind of 64 mph, with a gust of 95 mph. A High Wind Warning remains in effect for the Sierra Nevada until 11 AM PDT Friday morning.

KKBN our local FM radio station said that Dodge Ridge Ski Resort at Pinecrest had 80 mph winds this morning. Dodge is closed for today. Also stated Kirkwood was open and didn’t mention anything about wind.
